June 2015: Teachers’ Appreciation Day

Teachers Day is celebrated every year in Thailand. The highlight of the day includes religious activities, a ceremony of paying respect to teachers and activities to strengthen unity among teachers.

The Teachers’ Appreciation Day (or Wan Wai Kru in Thai) is held shortly after the beginning of term. The children arrange a flower tray for the Wai Kruu ceremony and present them to the teachers. The students also recite the wai kruu chant, expressing respect for and gratitude to the teachers, and asking the teachers’ blessing for their studies.

January 2015: Children’s Day

In Thailand we celebrate National Children’s Day on the second Saturday of January every year. This year it was on Saturday 10th January 2015 and it is known as “Wan Dek”. The day is celebrated with the children having fun with various activities arranged by both Government agencies and private businesses.

On Friday 9th January we celebrated Wan Dek at school with several fun activities. And on the actual day itself we were lucky enough to be involved with Children’s Day on a local level. Our teachers and volunteers did some fun activities with the local kids - and we think they both had a great time!
